A great start to the season or the Horse

The new season is upon us and the Horse started their campaign at home to Letchworth 3s. Having been promoted to Merit Table 4 the Horse had no idea what to expect as they moved up the tables for a second season in a row.

They started well and were on the scoresheet after a few minutes. Some good pressure lead to Letchworth giving away the penalty, which Isaac Aitken converted. It didn't take long for further Horse pressure to lead to more points. Another penalty was given away and Isaac Aitken duly converted to put the Horse up 6-0. A few minutes later the Horse had their first try of the season. Some great hands found Dave Lowe on the half way line, who started slowly but eventually got to full pace to score the try. There was still time for more scores in the first half and the Horse took them. A great kick to the corner from Rob Schrimshaw bounced up nicely in to the hands of Isaac Aitken, who scored the try and then converted to put the Horse 18-0 up at half time.

The Horse had the pitch advantage in the second half but struggled to get the ball over the line, with Michael Breeze missing an easy chance early in the second half. Andy Grewcock didn't help matters initially by getting sin binned but the Horse pushed on and got a third try. Ben Brown joined the scrum (finally!) to help push the scrum over from 5m and Dan Thompson had the easy task of touching the ball down at number 8. Isaac Aitken converted to put the Horse 25-0 up. The rest of the game was played in awful conditions, with rain hailing down and unsurprisingly there was numerous errors. The Horse eventually got a fourth try through Michael Breeze following a miss pass from Letchworth. Isaac Aitken converted again to give the Horse a 32-0 opening day win.

A great start to the season for the Horse and they'll look to continue this form next week, away at Hendon.

MOM - For the second week running, Dave Lowe produced a moment of magic alongside solid defence and support play. The try was a wingers dream!

WOM - Michael Breeze..... with 29 other players AND the ref shouting at him to let go of the ball during a ruck, he ignored everyone, stole the ball illegally and stood there looking innocent with the ball in his hands!
